【News】 Combined Therapy of Spinal Cord Regeneration and HAL® for Medical Use, Leading to Functional Regeneration Treatment. ~ Collaboration with Keio University School of Medicine to deploy cutting edge medical technology within the International Strategic Zone ~

CYBERDYNE, INC. (hereafter referred to as “the Company”) and Keio University School of Medicine (hereafter referred to as “the University”) has concluded a partnership memorandum of understanding, in order to advance and accelerate the world’s first, cutting-edge research project and to realize medical innovations for the purpose of making direct contributions to “extending healthy life expectancy”, using “Robot Suit HAL® for Medical Use (Lower Limb Type)” (hereafter referred to as “HAL® for Medical Use”).

Making use of the Research Complex Project*, the Company and the University will start cutting-edge research at Tonomachi Town Campus, established by the University on April 1st, 2016, within Kawasaki City’s “KING SKYFRONT, Tonomachi International Strategic Zone”.

Specifically, the effectiveness of “combined usage of spinal cord regeneration treatment and HAL® for Medical Use as functional regeneration treatment” for chronic spinal cord injury patients and patients who have had spinal cord tumor surgery will be researched. The Company and the University will accelerate this research in order to apply HAL® for Medical Use as advanced medicine deployed within KING SKYFRONT.

With the conclusion of this memorandum of understanding, the Company will collaborate with the University in order to create an eco system turning Japan into the most innovation-friendly country in the world, and to deploy Japanese medical innovation overseas.

【Details of this Memorandum】
(1) Advancing the research on the effectiveness of “combined usage of spinal cord regeneration treatment and HAL® for Medical Use as functional regeneration treatment” for chronic spinal cord injury patients and patients who have had spinal cord tumor surgery
(2) Accelerating varieties of joint-research for medical innovation, and coordinating joint-training sessions as well as matters regarding the structure of a cooperation network between medicine and healthcare

*The Research Complex Project is a project hosted by Japan Science and Technology Agency (“JST”), aiming to assemble the key players from Industry, Academics, Government and Financial institutions into one place for the purpose of working together towards a common “vision” of improving the area and its social value. The project aims to grow and develop the foundation of accelerating innovation, in order to unify and integrate the functions of cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and development within Japan and beyond, commercialize the research results, foster human resources, and contribute to regional revitalization.
