【News】Signing ceremony for basic agreement with Koriyama – for constructing a next-generation and multi-purpose production base in Fukushima Prefecture, the center of medical device production –

As CYBERDYNE Inc. (the Company) announced on October 22, 2014 (see the “News” on the date), the granting of the subsidy “Fukushima medical / welfare device development and commercialization funding, sponsored by Fukushima Prefecture” to the Company’s projects was decided and notified to it on October 17, 2014. This time the Company and Koriyama City in Fukushima Prefecture, in which a construction site is located, will have a signing ceremony of a basic agreement for smooth provision of the site and establishment of the production base.

Fukushima Prefecture is one of the most successful production area of medical devices in Japan. Many large manufacturing companies of medical devices have production bases there and medium scale manufacturing companies that backup those large manufactures concentrate there. Consequently the country’s large cluster of medical device industry is generated there. The Company expects stable procurement of raw materials, components and human resources that are indispensible for its production of the most advanced medical devices there. Therefore the Company considers that the site is the most appropriate for the center of its production base which supports the growth of it.

 3. Major medical device production facilities in Fukushima Prefecture

A production base of Olympus Medical Systems exists there and produce 70 % of gastroenterological endoscopes in the world. Approximately sixty medical device manufacturers, such as Johnson & Johnson and Nippon Becton Dickinson, operate and propel the prefecture to rank among the largest medical device producing prefectures in Japan.
